So before you touch a vein, you need the boundary line. The National EMS Scope of Practice Model lists four vascular-access skills, and AEMT only covers the first two cleanly.

One word draws the whole line: medicated. You can start the line. You can run plain fluid through it. You cannot manage a vasopressor drip or any other medicated infusion — that's why an interfacility transfer running a drip needs a paramedic or a nurse riding along. Keep that word in your head through this whole lesson, because every skill below sits on the "yes" side of it.
