At the EMT level, transport is mostly about safe driving, securing the patient, and loading and unloading. You still do all of that as an AEMT. But now you're also moving a patient who has interventions in place.
That's the whole shift. You might have an IV running. You might have an advanced airway in. Someone else might have placed that airway or started that line before you ever touched the patient. So transport is not a pause in your care. It's a continuation of it, under worse conditions.
Movement, vibration, and time on the road all increase the chance something shifts, kinks, or comes loose. A line that was patent at the scene can fail on the way to the hospital. So your reassessment has to be deliberate, and it has to be frequent. We'll go through each piece — the IV, the airway, how often you recheck, and then interfacility transport, which is where all three of those pieces show up at once.
