A breathing problem fails in one of three places. Start there, not at the diagnosis.
The tubes can narrow. Air can't get in and out. That's asthma and COPD.
The sacs can fill with something that is not air. Pus, fluid, blood. That's pneumonia and pulmonary edema.
Or the blood can't reach the sacs at all. Air gets in fine, but nothing's there to pick it up. That's pulmonary embolism.
Your exam findings tell you which of the three you're standing in front of. Lung sounds and onset are the two clues that sort it, and we'll build the whole lesson off those two.
