Your body runs on a narrow core temperature range, about 97 to 100°F. Push it outside that range, and organ systems fail one by one.
Environmental emergencies split into two directions. Too hot, or too cold. Both come from the same problem: thermoregulation losing the fight against the environment. You're either helping the body dump heat, or hold it in.
There's a third category too: submersion. It's an oxygen problem at its core, not a temperature problem, though cold water often rides along with it.
