A multisystem trauma patient has injuries in more than one body region. Not one bad injury, several, at once.
The math is not additive. It's multiplicative. A femur fracture alone costs blood. A chest injury alone costs oxygenation. Put them on the same patient and each one makes the other worse. Blood loss drops the oxygen the blood can deliver. Poor oxygenation stresses a heart that's already compensating for the blood loss. The whole patient is losing heat the entire time, which makes the blood that's left clot poorly.
That's the mechanism you're managing. Three problems (hemorrhage, hypoxia, and heat loss) feeding each other in a loop. Nothing you carry in the truck fixes internal bleeding. No dressing reaches a lacerated spleen. The field goal is narrow: control what you can control, keep the patient oxygenated and warm, and get them to a surgeon before the loop finishes them off.
That last part is why this topic is tested on sequencing, not on skills. You already know how to splint a femur and take a blood pressure. The exam wants to know if you'll do those things at the right time.
