The EMT applies the pathophysiology of respiration and perfusion. You integrate the pathophysiology of major human systems. Applying means you take one known relationship and use it. Integrating means you hold several systems at once and see one process, not three separate findings.
Here's what that looks like on a patient. A vessel occludes somewhere. That one event is going to show up as a lung finding, a kidney finding, and a brain finding, all from the same cause. An EMT is trained to recognize each of those findings on its own. You're trained to see them as one process and trace it back to where it started.

That's why paramedic items reach past the lungs and the heart into the renal, endocrine, hematologic, and neurologic consequences of a problem that started somewhere else. The exam's largest block, Clinical Judgment, sits at 34–38% and is built on recognizing cues and forming a hypothesis. That only works if the systems are already connected in your head before the question starts.
