The Instructional Guidelines put patient assessment in a fixed order. Learn the order first. The National Registry tests it directly:
Standard precautions → scene size-up → general impression → primary assessment → history (SAMPLE/OPQRST) → baseline vital signs → secondary assessment → reassessment.
Two things about that order get tested hard. First, standard precautions come before the scene size-up. You glove up before you're even looking at the scene. Second, the Guidelines say a complete secondary assessment "may not be appropriate to perform on all medical patients." That means it's not a box you check every time. It's a tool. You reach for it only when the patient can afford the time it takes.
